THOUGHT/BECOMING/IMAGE/BECOMING/THOUGHT is an ongoing series of drawings and found images.
These often minimal indications and selections act as waymarks in thought, recording the presence of the mind at a particular point. In function they are similar to the texts and interventions of Richard Long, marking presence in a landscape. They work like characters in a writing system, whose significance may variy according to how they are combined, and may be understood in light of one another. As the series is added to, new ways of understanding each image are suggested.
Many of these images allude to concepts in myth, natural history, poetry, archaeology, metaphysics... One of the things this series does is to collapse the artificial distinctions between these fields. Only thought remains, only image.
This work takes its title from an essay by the poet Charles Simic, Reading Philosophy at Night.
